HealthSouth Africa has relatively few health concerns for the safari traveller, as the medical facilities are world class, with many capable hospitals. However, all medical treatment must be paid for at the time of service, so you should purchase a Travel Insurance policy for your stay. There is a large full service hospital in the town of Ellisras, only an hour's drive from our ranch. Tap water is safe to drink throughout South Africa, I drink it every day for two months or longer while I'm there and I have never been sick a single time. There are no immunizations required to enter South Africa, however, a Tetanus booster and Hepatitis "A" have been recommended by local Health Departments. Most of the Northern Province is Malaria-free which includes our hunting consession. Visitors to the Northern part near the Zimbabwe border, as well as Kruger National Park, are advised to take a Malarial Prophylaxis at least a week before visiting these areas. Sufferers of specific allergies and ailments should ensure that they bring their own medications and prescriptions. Don't forget your hat, sun glasses and sun tan lotion for protection from the sun. Remember physical health awareness, as these temporary changes in your lifestyle could have an effect on your health. |
